Who we are

Goodies operates in and around Edinburgh to reduce waste, support people and build community! Our work prevents food and other goods from ending up in landfills and instead redirects them to people who need them.

We collect surplus items from local businesses to prevent them from going to waste and redistribute them to people facing financial hardship. We want to reduce the impact that food waste has on the environment while helping members of our community.

We’re working hard to make sure no food goes to waste and nobody goes hungry.

Did you know…

  • 8-10% of global greenhouse emissions are associated with uneaten food?
  • Food waste from households makes up 70% of the UK’s total food waste?
  • The annual cost of household food waste across Scotland averages out to £480 wasted per household?
  • In 2023, 14% of Scottish adults had experienced food insecurity

Goodies is committed to working towards a zero-waste future that focuses on Circular Economy practices. By preventing waste and sharing what we have, we can help people and the planet to be healthier.

We work with businesses and charities across Edinburgh to stop perfectly good food from going to waste. We collect surplus from supermarkets every day of the week and give it to our partner organisations so they can help people who need it. We work with more than 10 charities each month, including homesless shelters, food pantries, and community centres.

Our hub has a wide range of second hand items available at great prices. Everything has been saved from going to waste and the proceeds help us keep our charitable activities running.

We host a range of weekly classes and activities at The Goodies Hub. From art classes to games group, mending workshops to support groups, there’s something for everyone.

We do catering too! If you’re hosting an event, check out our catering packages to find out how you can have a good impact on your community and the environment at the same time.

Goodies has been operating since the Covid-19 pandemic, when our founder Farrah noticed an increasing amount of supermarket food going to waste as well as more and more people struggling to support themselves. Goodies started with a hand-pulled wagon, and now we’re a growing team of around 30!
